The floral flavonoid metabolism of ancient rose varieties of key importance in the rose selection process was investigated by means of High Performance Liquid Chromatography. The phenolic variation organised by means of chemometrics revealed biochemical communities clustered around the founder species of modern roses: R. chinensis, R. gallica and R. moschata.
