Cu + luminescence has assumed importance in light of the possibility of using it for lasing. Although the copper doped alkali halides have been studied for long, the procedures for incorporating copper in monovalent form are not set. In some alkali halides, Cu + is easily incorporated, while in others only an elaborate and specific procedure yields such samples. Data on Cu + luminescence in some lithium halides are reported for the first time. New data on the effect of OH - impurity on the Cu + luminescence are also presented.
