The article is dedicated to the two ways of transfer of text into icons. In the first case, the icon incorporates text which, with time, occupies more and more place in the icon and in some instances becomes contradictory with the image. In the article, the phases and characteristics of this explicit transfer of text into icons are being examined, referring to this type of transfer as imposition. In the second case, the text or words are considered as the implicit verbal foundation of the icon. At this stage, the author proposes a classification of types of transfer of text into an ecclesiastical visual representation.
