The amounts of soluble HLA class I and II molecules in the serum were measured in the patients with liver disease using ELISA method. In the patients with chronic hepatitis C(CH-C), the levels of serum HLA class I and II molecules were significantly higher(5.21±4.80, 2.28±2.43μg/ml, each) than those of healthy controls (p<0.05). However, there was no correlation between the levels of HLA class I and II molecues. There was significant inverse correlation between the amounts of HLA class I and serum IgM level (p<0.005). Also, there was significant correlation between the amounts of HLA class II and serum gamma globulin and IgG levels (p<0.05). No correlations were observed between serum ALT or AST levels and the amounts of HLA molecules. Conclusion; In CH-C, the levels of serum soluble HLA molecules were higher than those of healthy controls and closely connected with serum immunoglobulins.
