Poincianella pyramidalis (Fabaceae) is an endemic tree that grows in semiarid regions of Brazil. Phytochemical investigations on the bark roots of this plant led to the isolation of four new biflavonoids named (+)-5-hydroxy-7,4′-dimethoxyflavone-3α-2′′′-hydroxy-4′′′,4′′-dimethoxydihydrochalcone (1), (+)-5,7-dihydroxy-4′-methoxyflavone-3α-2′′′-hydroxy-4′′′,4′′-dimethoxydihydrochalcone (2), (−)-7-hydroxy-4′-methoxyflavone-3α-2′′′,4′′′-dihydroxy-4′′-methoxydihydrochalcone...
Two new benzophenone derivatives 4,3′,4′-trihydroxy-2,6-dimethoxybenzophenone 1 and its glycoside 3′-β-d-glucosyloxy-4,4′-dihydroxy-2,6-dimethoxy-benzophenone 2 were isolated from the twigs and stem wood of Garcinia livingstonei together with twelve known compounds. The antioxidant activity of the isolates and extracts was evaluated.
