Molecular construction based on icosahedral carboranes and aromatic N,N'-dimethylurea groups. Aromatic layered molecules and a transition metal complex
cis-Preference of N-methyl aromatic ureas in combination with regulation of the C-substituent on an o-carborane cage is applicable to construct structurally unique macromolecules. Aromatic ureas with multilayer structure (5-12) and an aromatic urea containing an intramolecular nido-carborane-cobalt complex (13) were synthesized and their structures were determined by X-ray crystallography.
