The scheduling of mobile users often relies on accurate feedback from the channel quality indicator (CQI). In this paper, we determine the strength of the effect of feedback delay on the scheduler in a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) system. We study this degradation under fairness constraints using a proportional fair scheduler. We propose a nonlinear support vector machine regression with a modified cost function in order to reduce the effect of feedback delay on the scheduler, which operates by predicting the CQI from previous feedback and using that for scheduling instead of the delayed feedback. The simulation results show important improvements in terms of throughput.
