We report on soft X-ray scattering experiments on cryogenic hydrogen and simple metal samples. As a source of intense, ultrashort soft X-ray pulses we have used free-electron laser radiation at 92eV photon energy from FLASH at DESY, Hamburg. X-ray pulses with energies up to 150μJ and durations 15–50fs provide interaction with the sample leading simultaneously to plasma formation and scattering. Experiments...
