The microwave-induced emission spectrum of gaseous ZrS has been recorded at high resolution with a Fourier transform spectrophotometer in the region 6900 to 8800 cm−1. A strong band system located around 8000 cm−1 is identified as the b′3Π-a3Δ system, not previously observed. The system is analogous to the b′3Π-a3Δ system of ZrO around 10 700 cm−1. The system has been rotationally analyzed, and molecular constants have been determined for the two states involved. The analysis includes bands of the strong (0, 0) sequence and of the weaker ( 1, 0) and (0, 1) sequences. Only the most abundant isotopomer 90ZrS is treated. The fit to the lower state also includes branches of the d3Δ-a3Δ and b3Φ-a3Δ systems of ZrS. The band system can be recognized in the J-band (7400-9700 cm−1) stellar spectrum of the S-type Mira variable R And. No other transitions of ZrS were observed in the region 4000 to 10 000 cm−1.
