The focus of this paper is 100GbE and beyond. An initial overview of the current 100GbE specification is provided. New electrical and optical implementations of the specification are considered, as well as other 100GbE physical layer specifications. Finally, the paper looks to the future and explores the issues associated with beginning the next speed of Ethernet.
