This paper describes an acoustic delay line sensor structure based on an alumina substrate and enabled by thick-film lead zirconate titanate (PZT) technology. Discrepancies between theoretical predictions and experimental results are described and successfully modelled, allowing the frequency response of such devices to be predicted. In addition a method for measuring the time of flight of pulses across the device is described, and some experimental velocity measurements are detailed.
