The influence of an external magnetic field on the elementary act of a chemical reaction in solutions has been investigated. The probability of a non-thermal back electron transfer to the triplet donor state induced by an external magnetic field due to the Δg-mechanism (magnetic field effect) in solvents with several relaxation time scales has been calculated. It has been shown that in solvents with the slowest relaxation time scale larger than 10 −10 s and in strong magnetic fields the magnetic field effect is observable for radical-ions with Δg of the order of 10 −2 –10 −3 . The strategy of the search of the most appropriate systems to observe the magnetic field effect has been suggested.
