Low-dimensional niobium chalcogenide halides provide interesting candidates for catalysis owing in part to their morphologies and electronic configuration. The synthesis, structures, properties, and electronic structures of novel compounds based on Nb 3 triangles and Nb 2 dimers are presented in this brief review. In addition, attempts at low temperature synthesis using organometallic precursors are discussed.
