The interaction of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene (TNB) with benzene in carbon tetrachloride has been studied using 1 H-NMR spectroscopy. The chemical shifts of TNB were measured relative to the internal and dispersed water phase (DP) references. In additition, the chemical shifts of the internal cyclohexane reference were measured relative to DP. The additional shielding on the acceptor, complex and the internal reference are evaluated and discussed. The concept of additional unspecific shielding (AUS) as well as the reliability of both referencing techniques for the present system are studied.
