A rapid capillary electrophoresis method was developed to analyze copper corrosion inhibitors. Two aromatic triazole compounds, benzotriazole (BTA) and 5-tolyltriazole (5-TTA), and a benzothiazole, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT), were effectively separated using a fused-silica capillary with the dodecasodium salt of phytic acid (10 mM) as a background electrolyte at pH 11.06. Analytes were detected with a UV detector at 200 nm. This method was successfully applied to the analysis of two commercial products.
