The synthesis and photophysical study of efficient red emitting phosphorescent iridium complex with a bulky and fluorinated substituent is reported. In order to improve the luminescence efficiency by preventing self-quenching and to tune photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) spectra to a longer wavelength, new iridium complex with perfluorophenyl substituted 2,4-diphenylquinolines, Ir(PF-dpq) 2 (acac), were designed and prepared where PF and dpq represent perfluorophenyl group, 2,4-diphenylquinoline, respectively. As a result, Ir(PF-dpq) 2 (acac) shows more reddish luminescent color and strong luminescence by the decrease of self-quenching. The photoluminescence spectrum exhibits in red emission at 621nm. To analyze luminescent mechanism, we calculated the iridium complex theoretically by using computational method.
