The surface plant is thought to be one of the most feasible final sinks. In the present paper, its role in the carbon cycle is summarized, and significance, scale and advantage of greening of arid and semiarid lands in the carbon dioxide problem are demonstrated. We also present the methodology of the evaluation of the effects of the greening on the problem, considering both the energy input and the amount of fixed carbon.
