In this paper, we describe the thermomechanical behaviour of the single and polycrystalline shape memory alloys. By means of an analysis founded on the Gibbs's free energy and by application of the thermodynamical second principle, we define a criterion of transformation and a law of out-flow associated to the martensitic transformation. This study introduces on one hand, in the case of the single crystal, a matrix of interaction between the martensite variants, and on the other hand, at the polycrystal level, a matrix of interaction in and between grains. By this approach, we describe the hysteretic behaviour of these alloys.
