If economic reform continues, and generates sustained economic growth in China, will US-China relations be improved or impeded? Using two polar scenarios, international relations theory, and the recent history of the political relationship between these two countries, this paper argues that no reasonable observer can feel optimistic about future relations. The paper offers a set of policy proposals.
