Percutaneous gastrostomy is a method suitable for long-term enteral tube feeding. For insertion of gastrostomic tube are used endoscopic or radiological techniques by push or pull method. One of the possible contraindications of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy are the previous operations in upper abdomen, stomach resection.Three patients - men (mean age 63.3 years) with partial resection of stomach were indicated to long-term enteral nutrition. In the first patient after necrotizing pancreatitis and episodes of gastric juice aspiration percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy has been introduced successfully despite previous gastric resection, repeated laparotomies and impaired wound healing. In the second patient with swalloving disturbance and partial gastric resection abdominal wall transilumination was unfeasible. In this case the gastrostomic tube has been placed under radiological and endoscopic controll. In the third patient with chemical burn of oesophagus and stomach with caustic soda lye after partial gastrectomy was impossible to pass endoscopical tube through constricted oesophagus. The gastrostomic tube was introduced using radiological technique (radiological assisted gastrostomy).Percutaneous gastrostomy is safe and useful technique. Highly experienced medical staff can overcome difficulties and pitfalls linked to relative contraindications.
