A kinematic method is developed to evaluate the shakedown limits for plates subjected to variable (quasistatic as well as dynamic) loads. The shakedown kinematic theorem is transformed into a reduced form, to which the upper-bound method involving construction of kinematically admissible mechanisms with yield curves used in plastic limit analysis can be applied. As an example, inadaptation of a circular plate clamped at the edge under variable uniform loading is considered.
