The ARCTIC Charged Particle Beam Propagation Code

The ARCTIC code has been developed to calculate the inductive erosion of, and plasma wakefield generation by, an ultrarelativistic electron beam propagating in a straight ionized channel through a background plasma. Numerical Study of a Stochastic Weighted Particle Method for a Model Kinetic Equation

A stochastic weighted particle method is applied to a model nonlinear kinetic equation. A detailed study of various numerical approximations is presented. The main effect achieved by the new method is an artificial increase of the relative number of simulation particles with prescribed velocities.

Big Ray Tracing: Multivalued Travel Time Field Computation Using Viscosity Solutions of the Eikonal Equation

Different traveltimes are identified as viscosity solutions of the eikonal equation on locally selected domains called big rays. Big rays are constructed by an ad hoc algorithm based on a coarse ray tracing. Viscosity solutions in the big rays are computed using an upwind finite difference scheme. This hybrid method allows an easy and fast computation of multivalued traveltime fields.
