Three mutant alleles of the transformer locus, tra v1 , tra v2 andtra enu , were analyzed genetically, and all were found to be functionally null alleles. The DNA sequences of these mutants revealed that they represent nonsense mutations that potentially encode truncated Tra polypeptides of 12, 61, and 90 amino acids, respectively.
