Cracks were found in four aeroengine compressor discs. These cracks initiated from holes in the discs and propagated in a radial direction. An analysis of one disc is presented in this paper. The cracks are fatigue cracks from high alternating stress. The reason why cracks initiated at holes is that there were coarse machining marks and a resonance stress at the edge of the hole.
