This article discusses some aspects of global goat production where goats are adapted to different environments, tropical, temperate, semi arid and feed on mountains, to agro-forestry and also to cut and carry systems fed on crop by-products and branches from trees.Goats produce an immense amount of products from meat, milk, skin and hair but for many small farmers the most important product is security or a banking system where goats are sold when money is needed for essential products. Of all ruminant livestock goats are the most effective browsers very selective and often select feeds which have anti-parasitic properties e.g. trees and bushes containing tannins.
