Nanohybrid of Zinc tungstate (ZnWO 4 ) nanoparticles and chemically reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets was synthesized with a “green”, ionic-liquid assisted hydrothermal process. The prepared RGO–ZnWO 4 s have been thoroughly characterized by spectroscopic and thermogravimetric analysis. Based on transmission electron microscopic study, RGO does not change the structure and morphology of the ZnWO 4 photocatalyst, while its visible light photoactivity toward degradation of dye pollutants is greatly improved. The enhancement of photocatalytic activity is attributed to the high separation efficiency of photoinduced electron–hole pairs in RGO–ZnWO 4 .
