A copper oxy-chloride superconductor La 1 . 6 Sr 0 . 4 CaCu 2 O 4 + δ Cl 2 - y is prepared at ambient pressure using the traditional solid state reaction method. The structure of the superconductor belongs to the structure type of 212 cuprate superconductors with the lattice parameters a = 3.827 , c = 19.42 and space group I4/mmm. The superconducting transition temperature (T 0 ) of this material is 34 K, and the carrier concentration in it is controlled not only by cation substitution, but also by anion substitution.
