There is a large Australian market for small governmental patrol vessels serving fisheries and other marine activities. Australian shipbuilders are well placed to satisfy this demand. The range of vessels demanded by Australian government departments and existing fleets and their capabilities are described. The main government departments using such vessels include the Water Police, and the departments of Transport, Fisheries, and Conservation and Land Management. Government finance and tender arrangements are briefly considered.
