Tri(8-hydroquinoline)aluminum (AlQ 3 ) nanowires, nanowalls, complex nanostructure composed of microspheres and nanowires, micro-spherical chains were successfully synthesized by simple physical vapor condensation. The effect of the deposition temperature on the morphologies of AlQ 3 has been investigated. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to examine the chemical bonding of products as-prepared. Environmental scanning electronic microscopy (ESEM) was performed to analyze the morphologies of the samples. FT-IR results indicated that the AlQ 3 molecules had a strong thermal stability. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra showed that there was no apparent blue shift because the AlQ 3 molecules are bonded by relatively weak Van der Waals forces. These different structures depended on the deposition temperatures would be believed to attractive building field-emission devices and other optical devices.
