Nosocomial transmission of hepatitis C virus due to blood-contaminated surfaces or instruments does exist even if it is not quantified at the present time. Respect for standard precautions, guidelines for disinfection and sterilization and regulations covering medical devices seem to be essential to prevent the risk of transmission. Concerning the particular case of complex and reusable devices such as gastrointestinal endoscopes and hemodialysis machines, design improvement appears necessary for carrying out their manual and automatic reprocessing according to disinfection guidelines. Critical zones analysis, as well as the validation of medical devises' manual and automatic cleaning and disinfection processes, based on the virus model corresponding to the identified risk, should allow one to get on in this work.
