Muon spin relaxation (μSR) measurements were applied to Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca 1-x Y x (Cu 1-y Zn y ) 2 O 8+δ down to 26mK to examine the existence of the ''18 effect''. Enhancement of the muon spin depolarization was observed around a hole concentration of 18 per Cu in the Zn-substituted samples in which the high-T c superconductivity was anomalously suppressed. Our μSR study revealed that the ''18 effect'' was likely to exist in the Bi-2212 system also.
