One use for diaphragm walls is in the construction of houses on vacant plots within an existing row. The new building is usually constructed between two existing ones, mostly to greater foundation depths. During construction stability of the existing houses is of prime importance. This paper gives examples of this technology applied to rectifying the tilt of an 80m high reinforced concrete chimney stack and building vacant plot houses within existing rows.
