Environmental and health concerns about the French nuclear tests in the Mururoa atoll in the South Pacific are discussed. The suitability of the atoll's rock for nuclear tests is examined. The lack of access to data from the nuclear tests has been widely criticized, particularly by Australian and New Zealand scientists. Australian scientists have suggested that the granite of Corsica would be better for the nuclear tests that the basaltic rock of the atoll.
