The influence on the molecular melting of DNA of ligands undergoing temperature conformational transitions is analysed theoretically. Formulae are obtained for calculating the melting curve of DNA in such a complex. They are used to investigate the stability of the double helix and also to study the influence on the conformational transitions of the ligands of their binding to helical and molten regions of DNA. Theory and experiment are compared for the DNA-RNase complex.
