Background: A complexity of factors determines outcome of foot ulcer infections in diabetic subjects. Variations in patient characteristics, treatment strategies and differences in health care systems may influence outcome. Objective: To evaluate the homogeneity in patients with diabetic foot ulcer infections of sufficient severity to warrant antibiotic treatment in three different European foot care...
We set out to evaluate the early outcome of ceramic on ceramic (MOJE) prosthesis in the treatment of hallux rigidus. Between March 2000 and November 2003, 13 patients (14 implants), were treated using the ceramic/ceramic prosthesis. These patients have been followed for an average of 24.46 months. The American Orthopaedic Foot Association scoring system (AOFAS) was used to assess the patients before...

The risk of suffering disorders of the skin and underlying tissue in the lower extremities is one of the few adverse effects of a physically active lifestyle. Engagement in a physically challenging sport, demanding and repetitive physical activity or high-impact exercising has particularly been linked to hyperkeratotic lesions such as corns and calluses. Corn and callus formation is the skin's natural...

During surgical excision, the lesion was separate from the talus and the calcaneum and appeared to originate from the capsule of the...

Giant cell tumours of tendon sheath origin are uncommon in the foot and ankle and extremely rare in the sinus tarsi. For cases that are difficult to evaluate clinically, MR imaging is recommended for diagnosis and assessing the extent of involvement. We report on a case located in the region of the sinus tarsi that was clinically misdiagnosed as a ganglion. In our case a pre-operative misdiagnosis...
In 1999-2002, 79 patients were treated operatively due to ankles fractures. In nine patients (11.4%) internal osteosynthesis by minimal surgical approach was applied. Post-operative treatment involved plaster splint immobilisation for 8-12 weeks. In the post-operative result evaluation, the AOFAS 100-point grading scale was applied. Normal union was achieved after 12 weeks of treatment, good functional...
We present a case study that confirms footwear to be a further aetiology for the development of plantar fasciitis symptoms causing pain in the plantar medial calcaneal area. Discontinued use of the footwear resolved the condition. Footwear assessment, and especially shoe construction and wear should form an essential component of routine clinical examination.
