Tannery buffing dust also known as micro fined solid waste is one of the most hazardous one among the solid waste generated in leather industry. These are most toxic due to the presence of chromium and carcinogenic organic compounds. TBDW was subjected to pyrolysis at 30-800°C in a patented facile pyrolysis reactor in oxygen environment to incinerate the organic compounds and simultaneously to prevent the conversion of Cr3+ to Cr6+. The pyrolysed TBDW were characterized using SEM, FTIR, and TGA analyzer. The pyrolysed TBDW was effectively solidified / stabilized using Aged as well as VG 30 bitumen. This modified bitumen was characterized for stabilization and modification extent using SEM and penetration test. The leachability of the stabilization of Cr (III) in the solidified matrix was confirmed through TCLP method.
