Le centre hospitalier régional des Grands-Lacs offre une information et un dépistage gratuit sur les facteurs de risque de la maladie rénale chronique [1]. Nous présentons ici une étude rétrospective de l’impact de ce dépistage.L’étude a porté sur 181 individus drépanocytaires, interrogés par questionnaire préconçu (n=100) ou par un entretiens (n=81). L’enquête s’est déroulée au centre hospitalier régional des Grands-Lacs de juin 2014 à janvier 2015. La mise en évidence du trait drépanocytaire AA ou AS l’a été par le test d’Emmel puis par électrophorèse de l’Hb. La formule de Shwartz a été utilisé pour évaluer la fonction rénale.Au total, 181 drépanocytaires ont été enquêtés dont l’âge variait entre 2 et 18ans. Quatre-vingt-dix-sept enfants (53,2 %) avaient un DFGe à moins de 60mL/min.Cette étude révèle une prévalence élevée de l’insuffisance rénale chez les enfants drépanocytaires. Elle plaide en faveur de la prise en charge adéquate de ces enfants pour retarder l’évolution vers la dégradation de la fonction rénale.Le dépistage des nouveau-nés avec celui des parents est une bonne mesure. Cependant, même si les parents dont satisfaits, les enfants dépistés restent préoccupés par la perception du trait drépanocytaire comme pseudo-maladie et du risque de réification d’une différence biologique entre membres de la parenté.
