An understanding of the mechanisms of current flow in melt-processed HTSC thick films is obviously of critical importance if these films are to find commercial applications. For this reason studies have been carried out on thick films of BSCCO material to determine the nature of the current path in these materials and the factors which limit their critical current density. The transport and magnetic critical current densities have been compared with the predictions of a simple model of current flow in these materials.
