The strained cycloheptynes 1 (S-alkyne) and 2 (SO 2 -alkyne) react with the silver salts AgNO 3 , AgNO 2 , AgCN, AgBF 4 , AgCF 3 SO 3 , AgCH 3 COO, AgCF 3 COO and Ag(hfac) (hfac=hexafluoroacetylacetonate) to form the complexes [Ag(NO 3 )(S-alkyne)] (3), [Ag(NO 2 )(S-alkyne)] (4), [Ag(CN)(S-alkyne)] (5), [Ag(BF 4 )(S-alkyne)] (6), [Ag(BF 4 )(CH 3 CN)(S-alkyne)] (7), [Ag(CF 3 SO 3 )(S-alkyne)] (8), [Ag(CF 3 SO 3 )(CH 3 CN)(S-alkyne)]·CH 3 CN (9), [Ag(CH 3 COO)(S-alkyne)]·1/2 CH 3 CN (10), [Ag(CF 3 COO)(S-alkyne)] (11), [Ag(hfac)(S-alkyne)] (12), [Ag(hfac)(SO 2 -alkyne)] (hfac=Hexafluoracetylacetonat) (13), and [Ag(hfac)(dms)(SO 2 -alkyne)] (dms=dimethylsulfide) (14). The structures of the silver(I) compounds 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, and 13 were determined by X-ray diffraction. In addition the copper(I) complex [Cu(BF 4 )(CH 3 CN)(S-alkyne)] (15) was characterized by crystal structure analysis. The compounds 5, 7, 9, 12, and 15 produce polymeric chains in the solid state. Compound 10 crystallizes in form of a polymeric network whereas complex 13 consists of monomeric units. The results of our investigation clearly demonstrate that the interaction between the silver(I) ion and the CC bond is much weaker than the corresponding copper(I)-alkyne interaction.
