The European Experimental standard (ENV) for the design of steel structures (EC3) completed in 1989, was approved by CEN in April 1992. Considering the comments received from the Member States after a thorough examination and experimental application of the ENV standards, the Commission has given its green light to produce EN European standards. Firstly, this paper outlines a brief expectation of what Eurocode 3 will bring to the European steel industry. Then, the paper reviews the reorganization of EC 3 Parts to improve the whole legibility allowing the user to have a series of well defined design application oriented codes (Buildings, Bridges, Towers and Masts, Chimneys ) and to ease its navigation through the various sets of Eurocodes (EC1, EC3, ). Then the intended schedule and the main features of the conversion plan are described.
