Two new copper(I) complexes Cu(S 2 P i Bu 2 ).(PMe 3 ) 3 (1) and Cu(S 2 P i Bu 2 ).(PPh 3 ) 2 (2) have been synthesised and characterised by spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic methods. Both compounds are monomers in the solid state where copper is four co-ordinate and the co-ordination geometry is based on a distorted tetrahedron. The dithiophosphinate ligand behaves as a monodentate in compound 1 and bidentate in compound 2. Compound 1 is the only example in Cu(I) complexes with a monodentate dithiophosphinate.
