A new group of novel magnetic nano- and microparticles consisting of diverse synthetic and natural matrices such as polyvinylalcohol, polyacrylates and polysaccharide derivatives as well as starch, pectine and alginates, were synthesized. The application of specially derivatized ionic magnet particles is described in cell- and drug-targeting experiments, gene transfection studies, and in a novel DNA extraction method.
