The purpose of this study is to explore Hong Kong hotel personnel managers' attitudes towards utilizing older workers and the quality of their performance, and to assess the potential of employing older workers aged 55 or above in the Hong Kong hotel industry to alleviate the labor shortage problem. From the respondents' perception, the strengths of older workers were low absenteeism and turnover, being hard-working, responsible and cooperative, whereas low productivity, high employment cost, and inflexibility were their weaknesses. Utilizing older workers was not as popular as other available alternatives to cope with the labor shortage problem in the Hong Kong hotel industry, however, there is an indication that it will become more widely adopted in the future. About 66.7% of the personnel managers surveyed in this study indicated that they preferred utilizing older workers to other alternatives in the future.
