Given that we do not know the future, how do we plan? How do we acquire the wisdom and foresight to see some way ahead and not stumble forward blindly? Two powerful approaches to foresight are explored in this article. The first, predictive foresight, aims to identify the key forces which will shape the future and predict their outcomes. The second, creative foresight, involves key people in creating an imagined vision of the future they would ideally have and then planning effective means to make it happen.
