The influence of different doping ions on the emission and scintillation characteristics of PbWO 4 scintillator was studied. In the case of Ce doping, efficient non-radiative recombination at Ce sites takes place, resulting in lower light yield and faster luminescence and scintillation response. Low temperature thermoluminescence characteristics resemble those obtained earlier for La 3 + (Y 3 + ,Lu 3 + ,Gd 3 + ) doping ions. Tb 3 + , Sm 3 + and Pr 3 + doping results in an additional emission-the leading emission lines are obtained at 543, 641 and 602nm, respectively. Corresponding decay times were measured to be 650, 848 and 61μs at 295K, respectively.
