This article discusses the architecture, control protocols, and coordination mechanisms used in today's multimedia conferencing standards for ISDN (Integrated Services Data Network) and IP (Internet Protocol) networks. Specifically, the ITU-T's (International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector) H.320 and H.323 multimedia conferencing standards are discussed and compared with respect to their architecture and position in the market.
