L'étude concerne l'effet de l'évaporation sur la vitesse instantanée d'une goutte de diamètre inférieur au millimètre en chute libre dans l'air. Le montage expérimental est une colonne de 2,6 m de hauteur dans laquelle la température et l'hygrométrie sont contrôlées (T∼20°C, 70<Hr<90). Au sommet de la colonne, un générateur permet de produire des gouttes quasi identiques de diamètre inférieur au millimètre. Un montage optique à double niveau de détection, permet de mesurer la vitesse instantanée de la goutte à diverses positions le long de la colonne. Des mesures ont été réalisées sur des gouttes de liquides ayant des caractéristiques physico-chimiques différentes : l'eau, le 2-éthyl-1-hexanol, l'éthanol et l'acétone. D'autre part un modèle simple, tenant compte du mouvement et du transfert de matière et de chaleur au niveau de la gouttelette en chute libre dans l'air, a été développé. Ce modèle est valable pour les nombres de Reynolds inférieurs à 400. La comparaison des résultats du modèle avec des points expérimentaux de la littérature d'une part et avec nos résultats expérimentaux d'autre part donne une bonne concordance.
