Complexes formed between d-glucoheptonate, d-galactonate, d-gulonate and d-ribonate, and several metal ions were obtained in the solid state. Specifically: d-glucoheptonates, Be(C 7 H 1 3 O 8 ) 2 . 1\2H 2 O, Mn(C 7 H 1 3 O 8 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Co(C 7 H 1 3 O 8 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Ni(C 7 H 1 3 O 8 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Cu(C 7 H 1 3 O 8 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Pb(C 7 H 1 3 O 8 ) 2 ; d-galactonates, Mn(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Co(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 . 3H 2 O, Ni(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 . 3H 2 O, Cu(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 , Pb(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 ; d-gulonates, Co(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 . H 2 O, Ni(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Cu(C 6 H 1 1 O 7 ) 2 . 2H 2 O; d-ribonates, Mn(C 5 H 9 O 6 ) 2 , Co(C 5 H 9 O 6 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Ni(C 5 H 9 O 6 ) 2 . 2H 2 O, Cu(C 5 H 9 O 6 ) 2 .2H 2 O and Pb(C 5 H 9 O 6 ) 2 have been isolated. These metal sugar salts were characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, magnetic susceptibility measurements, FT-IR, diffuse reflectance and EPR spectroscopies.
