Le Registre des cancers de la Somme a permis d'etudier l'incidence et certaines caracteristiques cliniques et epidemiologiques du cancer du sein feminin dans le departement de la Somme en 1990. Ce travail a pour but, d'une part, de comparer ces caracteristiques a celles obtenues lors d'une precedentee tude en 1984 et, d'autre part, de pouvoir mesurer les resultats de la campagne de depistage du cancer du sein mise en place dans le departement en 1991. Deux cent soixante-deux nouveaux cas ont ete enregistres. Le taux brut d'incidence est de 96/100 000 femmes. Le taux standardise pour l'age selon la population mondiale est de 73,9/100 000 femmes. Par comparaison aux autres registres, la Somme apparait comme l'une des zones europeennes a risque eleve de cancer du sein. Le diagnostic histologique est connu dans 96 % des cas. Le type histologique le plus frequent est le carcinome canalaire infiltrant (91 %). Au moment du diagnostic 5,4 % des patientes presentent des metastases. Soixante-quatorze pour cent des tumeurs sont classees pT1 (42 %) ou pT2 (32 %). Le risque d'extension ganglionnaire est de l'ordre de 30 % pour les tumeurs classees pT1 et pT2, il depasse 50 % pour les liaisons classees pT3 ou pT4. Au point de vue therapeutique, 90 % des patientes ont beneficie d'une chirurgie mammaire, 83 % d'une radiotherapie et 60 % d'une chimiotherapie et/ou d'une hormontherapie. A 3 ans la survie actuarielle observee est de 81 %, et la survie corrigee de 85 %.
