Cultural conditions have been optimised for the production of proteases byBacillus amyloliquefaciens in solid-state fermentation. Maximal enzyme activity was produced at 37°C with an aeration of 4 litre/min in a laboratory-fabricated horizontal tray reactor. The enzyme produced was used for the unhairing of hides and skins.
